Popcorn Clouds

Popcorn Clouds is a ticketed event on Friday, July 10, 2026 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at nvrlnd. arts foundation in Calgary.

Popcorn Clouds is a solo exhibition by Calgary-based multidisciplinary artist Winner Brave, featuring new portraiture work exploring weight, transformation, and the interior life that lives just beneath performance.A popcorn cloud is what meteorologists call those scattered, puffy cumulus that dot a summer sky. They look soft. Aesthetic. Harmless. But they are densely packed with water, weight, and a quiet instability that builds into something new. This body of work is about that kind of weight, and the surprise of ground beneath your feet after a long season of floating.A year and a half in the making, the exhibition is presented in two registers: a yellow series of suspended, liminal portraiture, and a red grounded series titled Before I Let Go. Together they trace a real-time arc of self-recognition, transformation, and the artist's own emergence into calling herself, out loud, an artist.Curated by Sarah Uwadiae.Exhibition Dates: July 10 – 13, 2026Opening Reception: Friday, July 10, 6:00 PMLocation: Nrvrlnd Arts Foundation, 1048 21 Ave SE, CalgaryAbout the artist: Winner Brave is a Nigerian-Canadian multidisciplinary visual artist based in Calgary. Holding a BDesign in Photography and Media Arts from the Alberta University of the Arts, her practice bridges the visual precision of editorial and commercial photography with the raw terrain of self-discovery and emotional consciousness. Her work centers on portraiture, color, and psychological interiority operating at the threshold of visibility and shadow.Brave explores transformation, identity, and the liminal spaces of becoming rather than being. She is drawn to the unspoken weight of personal history and the invisible architectures that shape how we see ourselves. Her aesthetic carries the bold contrasts of advertising, yet beneath that polished surface, her practice excavates the deeply personal: obsession, intimacy, rebirth, the beauty that emerges from destruction. With over seven years of professional experience across editorial, fine art, and commercial photography, Brave is the founder of 11th Casa, a talent development initiative for visual artists.Instagram: @winner.braveWebsite: winnerbrave.ca
